NEVER Apologize For What You Read or What You Write! #IntellectualFreedom #ProudReader #ProudWriter

It started out as a worry. This will not surprise those who know me.

I worry often and about everything. This particular night I was worrying about what people would think if I wrote something totally fluffy. Would they like it? Would they hate it? Should I apologize for wanting to write fluff? I should apologize! I should get on Facebook and APOLOGIZE!

"Dear Facebook friends and fans...I'm so sorry this story isn't Sweet Giordan or Most Beautiful Words--it's JUST going to be fluff."

I started to write the apology six or seven times in different ways over the course of several days. I bit my nails to nubs. I fretted. I made myself sick over it.

And then, while writing another incarnation of the apology, this came out of me instead:

Please please please don't apologize for what you write or what you read. Don't apologize for writing too much sex or not enough, for changing genres and styles, for following your heart story to story. You are amazing, and your intellectual freedom is amazing!

As a library lady, I promote intellectual freedom all the time. READ WHAT YOU WANT AND NEVER APOLOGIZE! So why wouldn't this translate to writing? I shouldn't be--and I will not be--sorry for chasing the story that's on my mind. That may be angst angst angst or it may be cotton candy. Hell, it could be a combination of both! (Black cotton candy?)

I would not stand for ANY author apologizing for their story, why would I let myself get away with it?

Listen. Really listen. You are amazing. You are unique. You are an author or a reader or both. Your preferences are your own. Your loves are valid.

DO.
NOT.
APOLOGIZE.

FOR THIS.
EVER.

Proudly me,
Raine O'Tierney

Something Beautiful for Sweet Giordan! #mmromance #fanart

I'm a sucker for art--ask anyone who's known me for more than three seconds and they'll tell you, "That Raine O'Tierney, she sure does love art." I love when people give me art they've done. I double love when they draw for me. And the ultimate, cherry-on-top pleasure of mine? Story art and fan art.

I was insanely blessed recently to receive my first ever piece of Sweet Giordan, Please Remember art this week. Ms. Kari Higa, knowing how important the peach orchard is in the story, drew the peach trees in full bloom. She even incorporated Christine Griffin's original sketch of Shane Devereaux.

This picture makes me so insanely happy. I'm sure Kari knows this, as I've only told her three hundred million times. But I want the world to know: insanely. happy.

Which leads me to a thought...

If you ever have the urge to put pencil or pen to paper and draw with a Raine O'Tierney story as your inspiration, I will be a level of grateful the likes you've never seen. ^_~ You might even be like, "Whoa, Raine. Chill. I get it. You're happy." And also, I'll showcase your work on my site! :)

Something to consider, artists. *Hint, hint!*

#GIVEAWAY : Who Love Magnets? PLUS Writing Updates! #MMRomance

It has been a long time since I've updated, but I promise it's for a good reason!

I've been writing.
And writing.
And writing.
And also...writing.

I just heard back from the GR MM Romance group and my free fiction, Somebody Nice!, has made it through QC and is ready to go. I do not have a release date on this bad boy yet, but believe me, when I know, you'll know! (I probably won't shut up about it.)

Also, I've been racing against a rapidly approaching deadline, but I finally feel like I have things in hand rather than wildly veering out of control. (Always nice!)

For those who did not hear, my YA novel I'll Always Miss You is in revise & resubmit status with Harmony Ink right now. I need to make a rather significant change--but one I think will help the story fit better for HI. It's not a hard change, it's just a long change. So once the above deadline has been met and CRUSHED(!) I will get to working on that.

...Then I can start something brand new! I've been dreaming about a brand new series for almost two months now. Shh! It's a secret.

Finally, The Most Beautiful Words in the World has entered pre-production. I dedicated it to my Paw-Paw, of course. The heart of the story is my wish that I'd listened to more of his tales. Most Beautiful Words is my favorite piece of writing to date, and I'm so pleased it's found a home with Dreamspinner Press.

All right, if you've hung on this long, it's time for a...
